Announcement of the next Schumacher print magazine and call out for submissions
We’re excited to announce that we are preparing to release our second print edition magazine later in the year and we’d be honored to feature your voices in its pages!
Like many of you in the wider network, Schumacher Magazine has been on a journey of fast change and transformation since the closure of the college’s home this past year. There have been a lot of obstacles: we’ve been disbanded, had our courses axed and yet we’re still here as determined as we were right from the start.
As Satish Kumar said in a talk just days after the closure, if you want to lead an interesting and creative life, you have to be prepared to meet obstacles head-on and transform them into your path of learning.
In this time of the Great Turning, we invite you to come together as a community with us to creatively find new paths through the uncertainties that lie ahead. To this end we welcome submissions from anyone who feels called to be part of this project in responding to the most urgent needs of our time — however you wish to express that.
Guided theme for print issue two
In general we welcome all submissions that reflect on our core focus on engaged ecology, creative expression, spiritual inquiry, and social justice.
However, in order to honour the kinds of conversations we have been having and listening to these last months, we are offering a suggested theme of the Great Turning, which you may wish to use as inspiration for new material, or to inspire you to submit work already completed or in progress.
The Great Turning, also known as the shift from the Industrial Growth Society to a life-sustaining civilization as conceived by Schumacher College instructor, Joanna Macy. We see our magazine as part of this collective shift toward a society rooted in justice, regeneration, and interconnection.
For more on this theme and a more comprehensive guide on areas within the magazine to submit to, please see the submission guidelines. We have tried to cover as much as possible to please review them carefully.
Deadline
Deadline for submissions to upcoming print magazine: 30 June 2025.
In exceptional cases late submissions may be considered, but please note late submissions are less likely to be considered.
Constant open submission exploring general topics for the website, YouTube channel, and instagram.
